Former MCA vice-president Datuk Chua Jui Meng is expected to announce his second bid for the presidency this week, pitting him in at least a straight fight with vice-president Datuk Ong Tee Keat, who is touted as the “president’s man”.
Jui Meng challenged and lost to incumbent president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting in 2005, garnering a respectable 35.1% or 819 votes. To date, only Tee Keat has formally announced his bid for control of Barisan Nasional (BN)’s second largest ruling coalition partner. He did it soon after president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting announced that he would not seek re-election following the March 8 political tsunami.
Another former vice-president, Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, is also widely expected to announce his interest to join the presidential race. Read the whole story
