Apparently stung by Datuk Zaid Ibrahim insistent that his quit decision is final (refer Malaysiakini), Umno Secretary General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said any Cabinet minister who doesn’t agree with the government’s policies can resign immediately.
“If he (Zaid) cannot accept the Cabinet’s decisions or existing national policies, and feels that resignation is the best for him, he can then go!” Tengku Adnan was quoted by Sin Chew Daily
Tengku Adnan further said although he (Zaid) is a cabinet minister, his remarks sounded more like he was from the opposition camp – referring to Zaid disagreement over government’s decision to detain Raja Petra, Teresa Kok and Sin Chew Daily senior reporter under ISA.
Tengku Adnan reiterates that the government had launched the arrest operation under ISA to ensure national security, as Malaysia is a multiracial and multicultural country, and the government must ensure social harmony and prevent sensitive issues from being raised.
On September 15, Zaid was called to a meeting at Seri Perdana with Abdullah from 3pm to 5pm.At the meeting, the Prime Minister rejected his letter and told him to take two weeks’ leave instead. Later in Kuala Terengganu, Abdullah confirmed receiving Zaid’s letter but declined to give further details.
