Sarawak Teachers’ Union president William Ghani Bina slammed Bintulu member of parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing over purported video recording of students ‘sex escapade’.

In a news report carried by an English daily yesterday, Tiong called on Sarawak Education Director Dr Julaihi to step down, apparently over his ‘inability’ to resolve problems involving students in Bintulu who video recorded their sexual escapade.

Tiong said he was amazed that the matter had not been seriously look into by the education department’s director.

“Instead, the top officer concerned asked the complainant to show proof of such happenings,” said Tiong according to Borneo Post.

The Bintulu MP said if Julaihi was truly dedicated, he should have immediately asked for disciplinary teachers of the school and Divisional Education department to submit their reports on the issues before deliberating to take appropriate action against the students involved.

“There is no reason to justify that the State Education Director was not aware of the incident and did not receive such report from the school concerned since the scandal had become a public,” Tiong was quoted to have said by Borneo Post.

STU secretary general Thomas Huo said the open allegations by Tiong that the department was not looking into the matter was uncalled for. Thomas Huo said Tiong should instead direct his disgruntlement through appropriate channel.

“In this case, appropriate action have been taken on the matter by the department and school concerned, with reports being sent to Ministry of Education.”

“But this was not something that should be publicised.” said Thomas Huo.
