Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar has rejected a challenge by DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang to engage in a public debate on the crime situation in Malaysia.
Lim threw down the gauntlet at a news conference today, saying he was challenging Syed Hamid to a public debate, to be telecast live, on whether the crime situation in Malaysia was getting better or worse.
Syed Hamid said the Ipoh Timur member of parliament was just trying to gain political mileage by raising the issue.
“He likes publicity. I am not going to go into a debate with him as he has already made up his mind (about the crime rate).
“If he wants to discuss and talk with us about the police, no problem,” Bernama reported Syed Hamid as saying.
In Parliament today, DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang blasted Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar for allegedly trying to portray him as an enemy of the country’s police force said Malaysiakini.
