Kemena assemblyman Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who made the call, said to gain the trust and confidence of those under their charge, community leaders must have the knowledge to guide others.

“As the world has changed and the people are now facing an era of globalization, community leaders must change the way they think and find new ways in dealing with issues raised by the people under their care effectively and efficiently,” he added.

Apart from that, he said, these leaders must be of good characters and take their job seriously.

“You must be the role model of the people in your area,” Dr Rundi said when closing an excellent leadership seminar for community leaders in Bintulu Division.

A total of 148 community leaders attended the three day course. He added that to be good leaders, they must also keep abreast of the latest developments in the country, particularly issues that affected their people.

Earlier, Bintulu Resident Dr Razali Abon said it was the first seminar of such nature to be organized here. He hoped that it would improve the knowledge and experience of the community leaders, especially the new ones.

Razali said the Resident and District Office here would regularly organize such seminars in the future to equip community leaders with relevant knowledge. Bintulu District Officer Bujang Budin was among those present at the function.
