Sih Hua Tong was elected the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth chairman when he beat SUPP Sibu Youth chief, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek in the party election Friday.

Sih, 44, the Batu Lintang Youth chief, garnered 44 votes from the 72 Central Committee (CC) members as against 27 votes polled by the 33-year-old Chieng in the two-cornered fight.

Earlier, a total of 248 delegates voted for the 72 CC members in the Youth wing, which started at 1 pm.

However, the counting process, which started at 4 pm, only ended at 9.50 pm after a two-tier election, where the delegates first elected 72 CC members who later elected the Youth chairman.

Incumbent Alan Sim, who led the SUPP Youth wing for two consecutive terms, did not seek re-election at the party Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC).

Meanwhile, two motions on the amendments to the Rules and Regulations of the Youth Section were passed today.

Under the new amendments, the Youth Central chairman must not serve more than two consecutive terms upon his election to the post.
