The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), a state Barisan Nasional (BN) component party, today reiterated its stand to continue playing an effective role in BN and to resolve several issues related to the state land policy.
Its delegates’ conference passed resolutions on the party’s stand on the highly sensitive issues relating to land, land renewal premium and land frozen under Section 47 of the Sarawak Land Code, native customary rights (NCR) land and education.
The party wants the land renewal premium for agriculture sub-urban land to be not more than RM5,000 per acre and agriculture town land be not more than RM10,000 per acre, without conditions.
SUPP also wants the owners to be full compensated if their land are compulsorily acquired by the government within three years under Section 47 of the Land Code, otherwise, the acquisition should automatically lapse.
The party also urged the state government to expedite the survey and issuance of titles to NCR land.
On education, SUPP urged the federal government to recognise the united common examination certificate of Chinese independent secondary schools and provide annual grants to Chinese aided schools and Chinese independent schools.
On the teaching of Mathematics and Science in Chinese primary schools, the party wants it to be reverted to using Mandarin to teach the two subjects.
While declaring its strong support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in his efforts to eradicate corruption, SUPP also urged the government to take more effective measures to reduce crime in the state.
