About 6,000 policemen will be on duty for the Kuala Terengganu by-election to ensure a smooth election, Terengganu deputy police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said on Thursday.
He said the policemen would be stationed in Wakaf Mempelam, Ladang, Bandar and Batu Burok, which are the four state constituencies in the Kuala Terengganu parliament.
“The police are ready to maintain public order and that of their safety during the Kuala Terengganu by-election,” he told reporters.
He said the policemen would be on duty to prevent any untoward incident, including on nomination day, which is Jan 6, as well as during the campaign period and on polling day on Jan 17.
In a related development, Jalaluddin said police had issued a permit for PAS to hold a gathering at the State Stadium Thursday night where the party would announce its candidate for the Kuala Terengganu by-election. – Bernama
