Nominations for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election opened at the State Stadium here at 9am today.

Several roads around the stadium had been closed since early morning to facilitate traffic control as the supporters crowded the area to support their candidates.

The weather was fine.

The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Datuk Razali Ismail on Nov 28 last year. Razali had won the seat with a 628-vote majority in the last general election.

According to the Election Commission records, there are 80,229 voters in the constituency.

Polling is on Jan 17, in the event of a contest.
