The fate of three missing sailors and their tugboat were still unknown as on Sunday after last Friday mishap. The search and rescue operation also have yet to be launched on Sunday due to the bad weather and strong waves condition of the South China sea.

The three sailors believed to be all locals were an employees of Borneo Shipping Sdn. Bhd a local shipping company.

They were reported to be heading to the Kemena river after bad weather forced them to unload only half of their cargo of logs to a ship anchored off the coast of Bintulu, when missing.

DSP Poniman Margiman, Bintulu acting police chief confirmed, a police report had been lodged at Tanjung Kidurong police station on the missing tugboat on Saturday.

“But we couldn’t start rescue operation due to the bad weather and as rough sea,” he said.

Two barges and a ship were still be seen on Tanjung Batu beach area and Kemena river mouth on Sunday, after being ran aground by strong waves last Friday.

Poniman advised small vessels, boats not to go out to South China sea at this time due to the strong wave and bad weather.
