Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor arrived at the Kuching International Airport at 10.10pm for an official three-day visit to Sarawak.
They were welcomed on arrival by Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and several federal and state ministers, as well as senior federal and state government officials.
Najib will meet with Sarawak Barisan Nasional leaders at the Hilton Hotel, Kuching at 9am tomorrow before attending the investiture ceremony in conjunction with the 45th anniversary celebration of Sarawak’s Progress in Malaysia at the Astana Banquet Hall in Petra Jaya at 11.30am, with Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng conferring the awards.
In the afternoon, Najib will hand over financial aid under the 2009 National Economy Stimulus Package to government-assisted mission schools of Sarawak and Sabah at the James Wong Kim Min Hall, SMK St. Thomas, Kuching and attend a function with the Bidayuh community at the Dayak Bidayuh Nasional Association headquarters in Jalan Kumpang, off Jalan Ong Tiang Swee, here.
Tomorrow night, the deputy prime minister will close the Islamic Congress organised by the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department at the Riverside Majestic Hotel.
Najib will visit Miri on Friday where he will hand over welfare aid to natural disaster victims at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Niah in the morning, and in the evening he will also hand over welfare aid to disaster victims at the
Malaysian Red Crescent Society’s Miri branch premises before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
