On his second in Sarawak Najib announced the federal government assistance to flood victims and farmers whose crops were destroyed by floods devastated most parts of the state recently.

The Deputy Prime Minister said flood victims who were evacuated to relief centers would receive RM300 per family.

“Either there was no relief centre in their area or they moved to a relative’s home. These families will be verified by district and state authorities.

“Once we get the list, we will give them the same amount of assistance as that for evacuees who moved to relief centres,” he said according to The Star.

Najib said financial assistance would also be given to farmers who were affected by the floods that hit Sarawak recently. However the the quantum to be given would be decided in discussions between the federal and state governments.

Najib, who is on a three-day working visit to the state, said the Sarawak government had also been asked to evaluate the damage to infrastructure and public amenities.

“We want the state government’s evaluation done by end of the month so that I could include it in the mini-budget that would tabled on March 10,” he said.
