One vote for MIC. Gerakan reported to be in favor of an MIC man to stand in the upcoming Bukit Selambau by-election. Gerakan vice-president Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye (pic) said it’s “Barisan Nasional tradition”.
“Kedah seat should be from the MIC in accordance with the “Barisan Nasional tradition,” Chia said commenting on a proposal by Merbok Umno chief Datuk Tajul Urus Md Zain that an Umno candidate be fielded there.
To support his case, Datuk Tajul said there are strong “sentiments against the MIC was strong in the area.”
The deputy prime minister and deputy BN head recently said there would be always be some differences of opinion as to which candidate should contest in a by-election as all the component parties would feel that their candidate stood a better chance of winning.
Ultimately, once the decision on the candidate was made, all components must abide by it and work for a BN win, he said.
But whoever to be fielded in Bukit Selambau other than MIC man – will likely to further weaken non-Malays support for Barisan Nasional, which already at it lowest following the Perak fiasco.
