Umno Youth exploited several Malay student unions in a political procession to hand over memo to the Sultan of Selangor. Bernama reports:
More than 500 members of the Selangor Umno Youth and eight Malay non-governmental organisations (NGOs) today handed a memorandum stating their solid support to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the institution of Malay Rulers.
The members, headed by former Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo, walked in a procession towards Istana Bukit Kayangan, near here to hand over the memorandum in response to the statement by the Sultan of Selangor yesterday stating his disappointment at the action by certain groups that jeopardised national security and challenged the monarchy.
The monarchy system should not be ridiculed or insulted as it represented the supremacy of the Malays until today, Mohamad Khir told reporters after the procession at about 10am.
The memorandum was handed over by the president of the Selangor Malay Students Union, Datuk Mat Yasir Ikhsan to the Sultan of Selangor’s aide-de-camp, Commander Ahmad Ramli Kardi.
Among other things, the memorandum supported the system of constitutional monarchy which had been practised all this time, pledged loyalty to the Sultan of Selangor and upheld the principles of the Rukun Negara, namely, loyalty to the King and country.
Among the NGOs participating in the procession were the Selangor Youth Council, the Selangor Malay Students Union, the Selangor branch of the Federation of Peninsular Malay Students, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)Students Representative Council, Selangor 4B Youth Movement, Federation of Non-Governmental Organisations Shah Alam and Pesaka Selangor.
