MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat today stressed the need for more Chinese participation in the civil service.
He said that among the fields identified by the MCA for the Chinese community to go into were teaching in the Chinese National Type Primary Schools (SRJKC) and nursing.
“We need to be more involved in these two areas. But in doing so, we will not forego the other fields. For the moment, however, we will prioritise these two areas,” he told reporters after chairing the MCA Central Committee meeting, here today.
He said that a series of briefings would also be organised, particularly at the grassroots level so that accurate information could be disseminated.
Meanwhile, Ong said the MCA Central Committee would also set up a scholarship and loan fund for students pursuing Chinese Studies at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) for the private institutions of higher learning (IPTS) level.
The RM1 million fund would be named ‘Datuk See Mah Wee Fund’ in memory of his contributions to the Chinese community.
