Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu today took to task some overseas non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which he said had sensationalised and blown out of proportion the native customary rights (NCR) land issue in Sarawak.

He said that although only a small percentage of disputed claims awaiting court ruling, the NGOs concerned as well as bloggers “tend to slant their stories to capture the negative emotion of their audience.”

“In the process of implementing joint ventures (to develop NCR lands), we encounter many cases of overlapping claims among NCR land owners themselves and there are also disputes between longhouses,” he said when opening the Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) annual general meeting here.

He said there were also claims and counter claims of NCR lands which, according to government’s record, were state land.

He said the government would allow such cases to be brought to the court to decide on the status.
