Dayak Music Award adviser Dato’ Seri Celestine Ujang told Dayak artists distance themselves from crime activities as it would tarnish the industry and their own image.
Ujang was asked to comment on the arrest of Iban promising artist Joe Merudi detention in Lambir prison on alleged extortion charges.
According to Utusan Borneo news report on March 3, Joe Merudi was detained by Bintulu police on Feb 19.
Joe Merudi, 25 then produced to a Magistrate court on alleged extortion charge on Feb 23. He however, pleaded not guilty of the charge and a bail of RM3000 was imposed.
Merudi failed to pay his bail and was sent to Lambir prison awaiting his trial schedule on May 6.
