Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had excluded Khairy Jamaluddin from his ‘new cabinet’ consist of 28 ministers and 40 deputy ministers in a televised announcement today.
As predicted, Najib instead appointed Khairy’s rival Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir as deputy minister at Ministry of International Trade and Industry which will be headed by Datuk Mustapha Mohamed.
It really a slap in Khairy face his deputy Youth chief Razali Ibrahim was also made a deputy minister.
At recent Umno Youth election, Khairy Jamaluddin won the three-cornered fight when he polled 304 votes, beating Mukhriz who only received 232 votes and former Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohd Khir Toyo who had 254 votes.
Najib named Tan Sri Muhyiddin as his deputy prime minister and appoint Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon as minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. Perhaps to everyone disappointment, Najib announced a marginally trimmed down even though a leaner Cabinet was expected.
