Mahathir today named individuals that he thought shouldn’t have been included in Najib’s new cabinet. Malaysia Insider reports:
“It is quite obvious that he (Najib) does not depend upon me, for example, he appointed ministers, deputy ministers who I think don’t deserve to be ministers, who are involved in corruption,” he told reporters today.
When asked by the press who these ministers were, he replied: “I won’t tell you.”
However, when pressed further, he added: “Nazri was nasty to me, so of course I don’t like him. And Johari Baharum, has this accusation against him for accepting RM5 million to release people. Of course he was cleared but some people still feel he should not be made deputy minister.,”
Nazri, after Abdullah’s took over in 2003, has repositioned himself as the former Prime Minister attack dog. On April 4, 2008 Nazri said Mahathir is a irresponsible leader.
“To me, a leader who quits in the face of challenges is someone who has no sense of responsibility but Pak lah (Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) is a very responsible person. Definitely he won’t desert a sinking ship and tell Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (Umno deputy president) to take over and bring things back to normal.
“I tend to agree with Zam (former Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin) … actually Umno is strong but the reason for it to be bleeding now is Tun Mahathir,” he said.
“I want to advise him (Dr Mahathir), if he loves Umno, to stop his actions and criticisms which can destroy Umno,” he said.
At another occasion Nazri said Mahathir isn’t (Jantan) man enough.
“If he continue to remain in the party, he would be like the opposition. It’s better for him to be a ‘jantan’ (man) and leave the party,” said Nazri in a heated 45-minute press conference. Nazri also defended Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s influential and ambitious son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin (left), who is Umno Youth deputy chief.“An 81-year-old man wants to quarrel with a 31-year-old young man. Better to pick someone his own size.”
