The electronic filing (e-filing) of the income tax return has increased by 30% to 1.25 million this year, said Inland Revenue Board public relations officer Najlah Ishak.

She said the number of taxpayers making e-filing had increased gradually from 78,718 in 2006 to 538,558 (2007) and 881,387 last year.

To cope with the growing numbers of taxpayers submitting their forms online, the board had increased the electronic download speed from 61Mbps last year to 69Mbps this year, she added.

“The 69Mbps speed had peaked as of Tuesday as many taxpayers waited until the eleventh hour to submit their forms,” she said.
