Datuk Joseph Entulu who is also Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development was furious that he was misquoted by the national news agency Bernama.
“Firstly, I deny that I had said it. Secondly I disagree with those who try to drop the term “Dayak” and I will oppose anyone who against the usage of the term Dayak,” Entulu was quoted as Borneo Post as saying.
Yesterday, Bernama reported Entulu as proposing the term should be dropped, because it conveyed negative connotations like being uncivilised, uncouth and “low class” when addressing Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Rajang Branch in Sibu.
Entulu clarified that he wanted the term “dan lain-lain” to be dropped from government official forms not the term “Dayak” as reported by Bernama.
“How can I when we even have a festival called “Gawai Dayak” he said.
Entulu also said, the first thing he did after reading the news report by local daily yesterday was to call Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Dato’ Sri James Masing to inform him that he had been misquoted by the national news agency.
