The 1Malaysia campaign initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be extended to 5,000 long houses throughout Sarawak, said Information, Communications and Culture minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
Speaking at the 2009 Gawai Dayak National Open House, Rais said the people of Sarawak, no matter where they are, would be able to savour the 1Malaysia campaign since it will be the foundation for the unity of the various races in the country.
“The Information, Communications and Culture ministry will ensure that all the 5,000 long houses are involved in the extended programmes to be organised by the ministry as part of the celebrations,” he said.
According to Rais, the Gawai Dayak 2009 celebrations, themed “1 Malaysia, Together in Unity” was a unique gift to the Malaysian public since a multi-racial, multi-cultured and multi-religious population can rejoice in a unified celebrations unlike those in other countries.
The ministry would also assist in providing advise and aid to Non-Governmental Organisations that wished to carry out activities to ensure the success of the campaign, he said.
Meanwhile, Sarawak chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said since 1965 the Gawai Dayak celebrations had become a national level celebrations ushered by all the various ethnic people of Sarawak.
The people of Sarawak must continue to support and cooperate with all the other races in Malaysia so as to continue moving forward.
