taib-mahmudSarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is confident of achieving a 50% broadband penetration rate in the state by next year as targeted.

Taib said measures are being taken to ensure that the target could be realised, including setting up wireless broadband infrastructure throughout the state.

“The average rate in Sarawak is still low at about 17%, so on the state government’s own initiative we have built a network of wireless infrastructure to cover most of the rural areas.,” he said.

“By this year we will cover the whole state with our wireless network,” he told reporters after opening a seminar on Knowledge Content in Key Economic Sectors in Malaysia.
