PAS candidate (left) shaking hands with his opponent Rohaizat Othman of Umno. Permatang Pasir by-election is the eighth by-election since March 2008 general election.

Only two candidates submitted their nomination forms to the Returning Officer, Roslan Yahaya, during the one-hour nomination process which started at 9am today.

The two candidates are Rohaizat Othman, 38, from the Barisan Nasional (BN), and Mohd Salleh Man Mat Aji, 52, from PAS.

Independent candidate Kamarul Ramizu Idris, 42, a motivational expert who had contested in several by-elections including the Penanti state seat in May, could not make it in time as he was delayed by the traffic congestion along the route to the nomination centre.

As soon as the nomination period was closed, Roslan displayed the nomination forms on the notice board placed in front of the tent for supporters for public scrutiny.

The public was given one hour to lodge any protest which would end at 11am. – BERNAMA
