Rumah Joshua, about 36km from Bintulu was razed down on Sunday leaving 33 families homeless.
The fire said to break out slightly before midnight, when most of its residents had gone to bed.
According to Tuai Rumah Josua Manik Buyu, the longhouse chief, he spotted the fire when he saw bright light glowing in the kitchen of the second-door unit.
He immediately alerted everybody, but couldn’t salvage most of their belonging as the fire was spreading too fast.
Manik estimated their losses at least RM1 million.
No casualites were reported and at the time the fire broke out, only 19 families were living in the longhouse.
“The rest are working in town and their family members have gone with them. They only return during festivals like Gawai Dayak and Christmas.” Manik said.
The longhouse was completely razed by the time the Bintulu firemen arrived.
