The body of Nurul Balqis Ramli, 9 reported to be missing at Tanjung Batu yesterday was recovered around mid-day today by Fire and Rescue Department and was immediately brought to Bintulu Hospital for post-motem.

Nurul Balqis, her younger brother Mohd Yusuf Ramli and three cousins were said to be playing on beach, when a sudden rush of waves swept them off the shore. However, her brother and three cousins were immediately hauled up to the shore by an uncle.

But attempted to save Mohd Yusuf Ramli throught mouth-to-mouth resuscitation failed and he was pronounced death on the spot.

“There were five children – four boys and one girl – were involved in the incident. Three of the boys survived and one pronounced dead and a girl was still,” Bujang Jumat of Fire and Rescue Department told local media yesterday.

Mohd Yusuf Ramli, 6 was buried yesterday at a local Muslim cemetery.

Shahwati, 26 the mother of Nurul and Mohd Yusuf were too distraught to speak.

According to her relative known only as Regina, from Kanowit she had just lost her husband middle of last month and yesterday two of her three children drowned while playing on the beach.

“It such a tragedy, and we are extremely sad of what had happened,” she said when met at the scene today.
