As expected Sarawak deputy chief Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang questioned the findings of a federal ministerial task force report over alleged rapes on Penan girls in upper Baram – even before he actually read it.

“Although I have not seen the actual report from a task force set up by the federal government, I believe negative NGOs are behind the report. There may be a report, but you must remember that negative NGOs were behind it,” Jabu reporters here.

When reports of rape and sexual abuse were first reported by the media last year, Jabu who is in charge of Penan affairs was the first to deny it.

He accused NGOs of deliberately lying in order to tarnish the image of the state government.

Now when the report has been released confirming that rapes and sexual abuse did occur, Jabu questioned the credibility of the report and again, accused negative NGOs of being behind it.
