Outgoing Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) Youth Chairman, Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing said all efforts should be targeted at preparing the party to face the coming State election instead of indulging in internal bickering.

Speaking at the opening of the SPDP Triennial General Assembly (Youth) here yesterday, Tiong lamented that some members, including a few from the Central Youth Committee, were not committed and sincere in their service to the party.

“Positions in the party or the party status quo is not an issue,” he said, pointing out that it was useless for one to have the position but unable to perform or deliver.

In this respect, he said, it was necessary for everybody to put aside or discard their differences and personal agendas and start working in unity for the sake of the party.

“We must change our attitude and ask what we can do for the party and not what the party can do for us,” he said, expressing sadness that the SPDP Deputy President’s post and three Vice Presidents’ posts would be contested at the party’s Triennial General Assembly.

Meanwhile, former Youth Deputy Chairman, Philip Ngo, reiterated yesterday that he would not bow to any request for him to withdraw from contesting the party’s Deputy President’s post.

He told reporters that the decision to contest was final and that it was made in the interest of the party and not for personal gain.

He said that his intention was to bring new ideas to the party, apart from his feeling that every party member should be given the opportunity to express their thoughts and views.

“The party must also learn to hear the members’ plights,” he said. — ET
