Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit

Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit, Member of Parliament for Mambong, will be sworn in as Deputy Tourism Minister on Jan 13, according to a brief statement from the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.

Bidayuh leaders have been lobbying for a post in federal government following Sulaiman Taib 41, decision to abruptly quit the deputy ministerial post he held since March 2008, late last year.

On Jan 4, Bidayuh first deputy minister Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe said the voice of the Bidayuh grassroots must be given some consideration as every community would like to have their own representative in the cabinet in order to have easy access to the top leadership.

A former state civil servant, Dr James Dawos started his political career by joining Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bengoh division and currently hold Bengoh PBB chief post.

He first contested Mambong parliamentary seat in 1999 and held the seat ever since. Dr. James is married to Christine Dawung since 1969.
