The home Simon Saville’s family look stunningly similar the Hobbits houses in Shire from the movie Lord of The Ring.
Unlike the Hobbit homes though – this is real house – home to real family in Wales, UK. This Woodland house has a compost toilet and a fridge that is cooled by air coming from foundations underground.
“I estimate 1000-1500 man hours and £3,000.00 (RM16,413.00) put in to this point,” Simon wrote in his website – featuring the house.
According to Simon the house was built with the help of his father in-law, passers-by and was completed within four months.
It was made of mainly of woods, straw bales, plastic sheet, lime plaster, turf and mud.
“The house was built with maximum regard for the environment,” he said.
“This building is one part of a low-impact or permaculture approach to life … about living in harmony with both the natural world and ourselves, doing things simply and using appropriate levels of technology.”
