PT Pertamina Cilacap refinery

PT Pertamina, Indonesia’s state oil company, said a small explosion yesterday at its Cilacap refinery led to the shutdown of one of two units at its lubricant base-oil plant.

The unit accounting for about 40 percent of Cilacap’s total lubricant output will remain shut for three or four days after the blast at a furnace, Basuki Trikora Putra, a Pertamina spokesman, said by phone today. The rest of the refinery operations weren’t affected, Putra said.

Pertamina last week said it may boost imports of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel after halting a processing unit at its Balikpapan refinery in Borneo because of a blaze. The company’s fuel-storage facility in West Nusa Tenggara province caught fire last week, and the company shut a unit of its Balongan oil refinery on Jan. 10 for maintenance.
