This piece by Dennis Wong of NST should have been retitled “In darkness since independent, BN forced Baram folks to endure few more years without electricity.”
Living in the dark after sunset is nothing new for the villagers here. They have been doing so for generations and have become accustomed to it.
Only a handful of them can afford to buy generators. However, their days of darkness may soon be over when power supply reaches here in two years’ time.
Under the 10th Malaysia Plan and the National Key Result Areas (NKRAs), 95 per cent of Sarawak will be connected with power supply and 90 per cent of the population will enjoy treated water by 2012.
In order to make this a reality, the Federal Government has allocated RM3.4 billion for infrastructure development.
