Former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Badawi was in Bintulu on Tuesday, his first visit after handing over the premiership to Datuk Seri Najib Razak more than a year ago.

Tun Abdullah who is adviser to the national corridor development was briefed by Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Datuk Mohidin Ishak on SCORE progress and development.

Mohidin said the earth-clearing work for the 7,000 ha Samalaju Industrial park has been progressing ahead of schedule with first phase expected to be completed by September this year.

He addded the population of Simalajau expected to grow by another 50,000 via the creation of Samalaju township under the SCORE initiatives.

Abdullah was accompanied by Wife, Tun Jeanne Abdullah, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities Sylvester Entri Muran and Sarawak Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) chief executive officer Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot.
