Borneo Post story on Bakun-Murum road construction

The construction of Bakun – Murum road expected to start soon following news reports that Public Works Department had awarded the RM645 million worths of project to three construction giants.

The 62 kilometer long road project was contracted to two peninsular based company IJM Construction, Loh & Loh and a Miri based company Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit.

IJM Construction Sdn. Bhd reported to bags RM247million worth of works, while Loh & Loh (RM99.3mil) and Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit Sdn Bhd (RM116.3).

The construction of the JKR R3 Standard road would also involved building of 13 reinforced concrete bridges and schedule for completion by August 2012 according to State Infrastructure Development and Communication Minister Datuk Seri Micheal Manyin Jawong.

IJM’s contract involves the upgrading of existing 20km logging road, construction of 11km new road and five bridges.

The Bakun – Murum road project was among the six road projects (Baram, Baleh, Tunoh, Limbang and Tatau-Sangan-Kapit) to be carried out under Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) costing a total of RM4 billion.

However Manyin made no mentioned of the highly anticipated road project linking Kapit to Sibu. Was he telling ‘half truth’ about road project linking Kapit to Sibu via Song-Kanowit as reported here?
