Japanese porn star Maria Ozawa

Japanese porn star Maria Ozawa, or Miyabi the target of Indonesian Muslim hardliners, could ‘stimulate’ the world most populous Muslim nation movie industry.

The movie producer Ody Mulya Hidayat of Maxima Production believes Japanese porn star Maria Ozawa, or Miyabi, can help revive the local film industry.

“I want to prove everybody wrong, that putting Miyabi in a film doesn’t make it a porno,” Ody said during Thursday’s premiere of the film “Menculik Miyabi” (“Kidnapping Miyabi”) at the FX Mall in South Jakarta – reported Jakarta Globe.

Certain parts of the movie were written and filming some of the scenes in Tokyo, to enable it being rated teen (13+) that passed through the Film Censorship Board without any cuts.

Despite initial threats of disruption from the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), the premiere of the controversial film proceeded without incident.

“The Indonesian movie industry is on a declining trend,” Ody said. “We hope that using Miyabi’s name can help stimulate the industry and Indonesian audiences alike.”

The film tells the story of three college boys infatuated with the porn actress, but the movie itself portrays her as a regular person outside her acting job.

“She told us she wanted the Indonesian public to know that she was trying to make the step forward from porn to regular features,” Ody said.

He added Miyabi was very professional, always showing up on time and following directions to the letter.

“She’s a nice person,” he said.
