SIBU, Sept 11(Bernama) — The People’s Progressive Party(PPP), which has 40 branches with more than 12,000 members statewide now, is targeting 50 more within the next six months.
Its chairman Dr John Lau Pang Heng, said it was the party’s ultimate goal to have around a 30,000 to 60,000 membership through the new branches.
“So far, people especially those from 25 to 45 years, are attracted to join us because we are a truly 1Malaysia political party with the membership comprising all races in the country.
“Secondly, we are a Barisan National component party at the national level,” he told a press conference here today to announce a dinner gathering on Sept 30 at the Sibu Civic Centre to celebrate the formation of its Dudong branch.
He said party president Datuk M.Kayveas and members of the supreme council are expected to attend. On the new branches, Lau disclosed they would be formed in the Sri
Aman, Bintulu and Miri Divisions and in other interior towns as well.
He also the party had started the registration of new voters last week and was targeting to register 3,000 new voters within the next four months.
