Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak expected to do a-helicopter-tour-of duty to Belaga, Bakun hydroelectric dam and Sungai Asap resettlement scheme areas on Jan 15 from Bintulu escaping the potholes ridden Bakun road.
Initial details made available to the press indicated Prime Minister will have a busy schedule; launching Arm Forces ‘Projek Jiwa Murni Angkatan Tentera Malaysia’, official opening ceremony of newly completed Belaga clinic while in Belaga town.
Belaga town is about an hour longboat journey from Bakun dam and yet to have proper road linking it to urban center like Bintulu.
The Prime Minister will also visiting Bakun hydroelectric dam site where he will be briefed on the social impact of the dam project on local communities.
However the most anticipated leg of the visit will be to Sungai Asap resettlement scheme where resentment has been reaching boiling point over unpaid compensations.
The 10,000 resettled Orang Ulu communities alleged that government has been reneging on it promises and had not compensated them in an equitable manner.
“We have only received the compensation for our lands not our longhouses,” said Wing Miku of Balui Liko who have been vocal in criticizing the government on the issues.
He said Asap-Koyan people expected the Prime Minister to deliver the goodies during the visit.
