The High Court judge Mohamad Zabidin told Anwar Ibrahim to enter his defence on the charge of sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

“The prosecution has established the ingredients for a prima facie case,” Justice Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah told a packed courtroom, reported themalaysianinsider.com.

The Judge ruled that Saiful was a credible and reliable witness since his testimony was corroborated by expert witnesses that there was penetration.

The High Court judge also said it was hard to accept defence’s submission that Saiful was not on 5th floor of a condominium where the alleged act took place.

Immediately upon learning of the judgement opposition MP Jeff Ooi tweeted: “Sodomy II D-Day. Judge says Saiful is reliable witness. Verdict cast in stone? PR shifts into Era without Anwar? Interesting times.”

Anwar aslo expressed his regret that the judge concluded that Saiful was a reliable and credible witness.

“Is there any more space to defend myself,” the Opposition Leader tweeted.

Large number of Anwar’s supporters, some coming from as far as Penang, had arrived at the Jalan Duta court complex here as early as 4.30 am, according to media reports.

The supporters performed prayers at the nearby mosque to seek divine intervention while the police beefed up security in the area.

Anwar, 64, was charged under Section 377B of the Penal Code with sodomising Saiful, 25 and could face a maximum jail time of up to 20 years if guilty.

Anwar had consistently denied the charge, saying that similar to the first sodomy accusation he faced in 1999, this too was a political conspiracy.

The trial, which started on Feb 3 last year, saw the prosecution calling a total of 27 witnesses.

The prosecution’s case relied heavily on the findings of two chemists, who established that the “Male Y” DNA profile found in Saiful’s anus belonged to Anwar.

Zabidin says prosecution proven all facts to define charge. Prima facie case made out against accused.
