First year, MARA sponsored student, Mohd Asyraf Haziq, was brutality attacked by more than 20 mobsters in East London while out to buy food for his ‘buka puasa’ with a friend.

Asyraf, who lives in Barking in East London and studies ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) at Kaplan College in nearby Tower Hill, was cycling with his friend, Sheikh Muhammad Faris, 20, when they saw the mob coming towards them.

His friend Sheikh escaped but the mob came after Asyraf and went for his bike.

“They went through my pocket and took my phone,” he said from his hospital bed in Royal London Hospital yesterday.

He said he then passed out and could not remember how his lower jaw broke.

He came to sitting in a pool of blood with several youths helping him up, who were, unknown to him, actually part of the group who beat him up.

Asyraf who were still being treated at London Royal Hospital received several visitors including Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir and MARA director Dr Noorzaini Mohd Noor yesterday.

The incident happened around 7pm London time (3am Malaysian time) yesterday was filmed by Abdul Hamid, 23, who said that moments earlier, another group of rioters had knocked Mr Haziq off his bike and stolen it according to The Telegraph.

The 75 second clip was featured by several UK media such as BBC News, SKY Broadcasting, The Telegraph drew condemnation from police and millions of internet users who viewed it on YouTube.

The Telegraph quoted a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman saying: “This is truly distressing to watch. The footage has been passed to our investigating team, who are trying to find out more.”
