The wreckage of an SUV involved in fatal accident near Sri Aman early Wednesday morning.

Early morning freak accident involving an SUV and a lorry at Jelukong, KM38 Sri Aman – Sarikei road killed nine people, one injured according to a police spokesman.

A Toyota Rush carrying 10 Indonesians collided head on with a lorry heading towards Kuching around 3.50am Wednesday.

Police identified the deceased as Asmadi, 21, Maulidi Mumziri, 22, Muslimin Jabir, 25, Ilham Muzani, 26, Zafri Anwar, 26, Ilham Tamrim, 27, Yusran Said, 29, Zunaidi Tamrim, 38, and Juhran, 40.

The victim bodies being lined up by the roadside before being sent to Kuching before being sent to their homes by Indonesia Consulate .

All the victim bodies had been sent to the mortuary at the Sarawak General Hospital. Kuching Indonesian Consulate has been making arrangement for them to be sent home to their families.

The lorry driver, Then Kee Nyong, 45, suffered leg injuries while a male passenger, who is in his 30’s, was not injured.

Police and Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived at the scene at about 4am and were shocked at what they saw.

“Many of the victims were lying on the road. The vehicle was just too packed with people,” a police spokesman told The Star.

Rescue workers had to extricate the lorry driver, who was trapped in his vehicle which landed on its side.

One of the passengers of the Toyota Rush, Paradin Tamrim, 40, had survived the crash. It is believed that Paradin is a sibling of Ilham Muzani and Zunaidi.
