BETONG: A baby girl born less than 24 hours ago was found dead, believed to be have been slashed by the mother at a secondary school hostel in the division yesterday morning.
Betong acting police chief ASP Hendry Nyuhai in confirming the incident, said police detained a 16-year-old female student at 9.15am to assist in the investigation.
“After receiving a report from the school, a CID team went to the location and found the baby girl dead with slash wounds on the neck, stomach and back while the suspect was on the bed beside the body,” he told Bernama here.
He said police also found a knife, believed to be used to slash the baby, which was hidden in a blanket at the scene.
He added that the suspect was being detained at the Betong General Hospital maternity award and that the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
