Hundreds of undergraduates staged a noisy protest outside the Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) mosque in protest against the suspension of its best known law Professor Abdul Aziz Bari.
As soon as Friday prayers came to a close, the youths converged before erupting into chants of “Long liveknowledge”, “Fight cruelty”, “Free Aziz Bari”.
Details are sketchy at this moment, but there has been some arrests made.
Earlier today, a group of undergraduates demanded UIA rector Zaleha Kamarudin withdraw its suspension of constitutional expert Abdul Aziz Bari.
This, they say, was necessary to “restore the image of UIA as a respected academic institution”.
Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM), in a pre-protest press conference, made clear its demands in a memorandum that will be submitted to the university this evening.
