Malaysia International Islamic University (UIA) quickly lifted suspension against Professor Dr Abdul Aziz Bari a day before Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak visit to its campus in Gombak.
Prof Aziz’s lawyer Zulqarnain Lukman, when contacted by the media confirmed lifting of the suspension, after receiving fax from the university on the matter late yesterday.
“The professor (Aziz Bari) was told to report to work today. However, the university’s investigation against him is still going on,” Zulqarnain told Free Malaysia Today website.
It is understood that Prof Aziz was unhappy that the charges had not been totally dropped.
He believed it was more of damage control move in view of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s visit to the University tonight.
Abdul Aziz was suspended for questioning remarks made by the Sultan of Selangor pertaining to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) action against the Damansara Utama Methodist Church.
