Burglars used a heavy vehicle to cart away an automated teller machine (ATM) with about RM316,000 from a bank in Taman Midah, Cheras early today.
Cheras district police chief ACP Mohan Singh Tara Singh said it was discovered by police patrolmen who saw the glass compartment housing one of eight ATMs broken.
Police did not rule out possibility that the ATM was dragged using a lorry or 4WD vehicle at about 3am.
Footage from closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) showed that it was committed by five to six men in their 30s.
“The suspects who did not wear masks took only five to ten minutes to steal the ATM. The alarm was not working while the premise was not monitored by security guards.”
Mohan Singh said the stolen ATM was found by a member of the public in Hulu Klang, Ampang at about 11am but the money was missing.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of Penal Code for theft in a building.
