IPOH — Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming filed a RM10 million defamation suit today against blogger Ahmad Sofian Yahya who uses the pseudonym, ‘Sekupangdua’.
In the legal action filed at the High Court registry here through the law firm of Messrs Leong & Tan, Nga is seeking an injunction to restrain the defendant, his agents or employees from writing, publishing, or posting words, statements or writings in his blog ‘Sekupangdua’ that are derogatory to him or members of his family.
In his statement of claim, the plaintiff alleged that the defendant had on Dec 16 last year, written and posted an article entitled, ‘Panas! Bongkar Nga Komeng dan Pakatan Rakyat Menyamun’ (“Hot! Exposed Nga Komeng and Pakatan Rakyat are Robbers), which he claimed tarnished his good name.
He further alleged that the contents meant that he was a dishonest and untrustworthy person who robbed Malaysians of their property, abused his power as a Perak state executive councillor, a corrupted leader, a fraud and hypocrite, and unqualified to be a parliamentary and state representative or hold any public position.
The plaintiff, who is also Member of Parliament for Taiping and assemblyman for Pantai Remis, is also seeking exemplary and aggravated damages besides interests, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court.
Meanwhile, at a separate media conference, Ahmad Sofian Yahya said he would not withdraw the statements made in his blog or apologise to Nga.
“Today, I want Nga to withdraw his allegations which appeared in the Malaysiakini news portal on Dec 19 accusing me of having a record of making up evidence and falsifying documents,” he said.
The blogger gave Nga 48 hours to apologise to him and withdraw his statements.
