Former Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat today withdrew a RM500 million defamation suit against Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing over a statement in relation to the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project.
High Court Judicial Commissioner S.M. Komathy Suppiah allowed Ong’s application to withdraw the suit in chambers in the presence of counsels Chan Tse Yuen and Tan Foong Luen representing Ong and Datuk K.Kumaraendran while Prem Ramachandran acted for Tiong.
Kumaraendran told reporters the court made the ruling with no order as to cost.
In August 2009, Ong filed the suit against Tiong claiming he had issued a defamatory statement on the matter which was published in the Malaysiakini website on Aug 12, 2009.
The former president of MCA claimed that the statement was malicious and in bad faith to prevent a fair and correct investigation into the abuse of funds in PKFZ project and Kuala Dimensi’s role in the affair.
Kuala Dimensi was the turnkey contractor for the PKFZ project.
Ong claimed the statement had tarnished his reputation, image, integrity and good name in the eyes of the public. — Bernama
