According to Bintulu police chief Supt. Abdul Razak Mohammad said they have detained four individuals – two locals and two Indonesians of the gangs that robbed a family at ABF Housing, Kidurong yesterday.

Abdul Razak said six masked men were involved in the 10.30pm robbery that end up in the death of 48-year-old contractor Lau Kah Teck, while his wife sustained head injury.

The victim was stabbed on his right chest by one of the robbers with a knife in a scuffle and died on his way to hospital.

Following the incident, a manhunt for the suspects was quickly mounted, which ended around 5am.

“Our focus areas were at the construction sites and workers’ quarters and Ops Tutup was also launched simultaneously at three areas namely Bintulu-Miri road, Bintulu-Miri coastal road and Bintulu-Sibu road.

“From these operations, two local men and two Indonesian men aged between 20 and 30 were arrested at a construction site to assist in the investigation,” said Abdul Razak in a press conference yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Abdul Razak also said police were investigating whether the victim was targeted or the incident was just a random robbery case.

Initial police investigation of the robbery revealed one of the room used by the victim as his office had been raided. A mobile phone and cash were reported missing.

He urged the public with information on the incident to come forward and assist the police to solve the case.
