ASTRO relents and will allow RTM a ‘live’ via TV1 the Thomas Cup final between Malaysia and Japan at 5.30 pm from Siri Fort Indoor Stadium in New Delhi today.
Broadcasting director-general, Datuk Norhyati Ismail said the telecast was made possible after Astro agreed to give RTM the broadcasting rights.
She said the ‘live’ telecast move was directed by Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, leading to a discussion in which Astro agreed to allow RTM telecast live the match.
“RTM on the directive of the Communication and Multimedia Minister, held negotiations with Astro to allow RTM broadcast the final ‘live’.
“I wish to thank Astro for the assistance to enable Malaysians watch the final ‘live’ over RTM,” she said in a statement carried by Bernama.
Malaysia qualified for the Thomas Cup final after 12 years by defeating Indonesia 3-0 in the semifinals last night.
