A barge stuck underneath Kemena river bridges today as cargo too high to pass under the bridge.

A barge overloaded with logs cargo was a little too high to navigate under batang kemena bridges this morning.

It get stuck under the bridge for sometimes, before being eventually pull through by three powerful tugboats according several people fishing near the bridges who witnessed the incident.

Photos taken by several eyewitnesses (see below) clearly show the barge was tightly squeezed under the bridges. It was not immediately known the sort of damages inflicted on the bridges structures.

Let’s hope the relevant authorities – public work department (JKR), Transport Ministry will thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure integrity of the bridges remain intact.

Safety of people using the bridges must not be compromised and an incident like this should not be left unchecked.

Batang Kemena first bridge was that of precast segmental concrete box girder bridge consists of 11 spans with a total length of 457m was completed in 1983. The second bridge was built in 2003 and completed in 2005 – few months ahead of schedule.
