Miri MP Dr Michael Teo and Pujut assemblyman Fong Pau Teck were furious that a new access road to Marina Bay had deprived the public and shopowners nearby of a public parking spaces.
According to Dr Teo, the Marina Bay park already had four access roads and attempted by the contractor to build another access road would further deprive the public and shopowners nearby of at least 72% of parking spaces.
A heated argument ensued after the developer representative insisted construction of the new access road were legal and above board, saying the project was legitimate development project approved by of the State Planning Authority.
However, Teo and Fong insisted that they should be stopped as police report and a complaint had been lodged with Miri City Council.
“You are robbing us of our parking lots,” shouted Dr Teo as the argument get heated and curious crowd getting larger.
Several parking lots have been scrapped to make way for a new access road to link the marina with Bendahara Road.
The Miri MP and Pujut Assemblyman faulted the developer, SPA and Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai for their lack of transparency in whole project, particularly for keeping the public in the dark of it actual status.
